I just wanted to start this off to say thanks to you all for the advice and questions, it means a lot that y’all want to help me keep Patches. Here’s a quick update!
It turns out that both of the cats we have are marking. We suspect that My step dads cat (Squirrel,12-13) is marking downstairs because that’s where she and my step dad stays a majority of the time (only comes upstairs at night to be with my step dad, but not every night, she also only likes my step dad), and that Patches is marking upstairs because he stays there a majority of the time. We all think it’s purely territorial because these cats don’t get along.
We got Patches a new litter box the morning I made the 1st update, my mom just didn’t tell me until later that day. We currently have the litter box downstairs, but we are planning to put it upstairs along with his food and water ASAP in an unoccupied bedroom upstairs, I am at my fathers currently so I don’t know if it was put upstairs yet, but I will find out and edit this post tomorrow when I get home.
We took Patches to the vet, he is fixed and shows no signs of any kind of sickness. He is completely healthy.
We are doing everything we can to get the cats to stop marking, we love our animals with our whole hearts so we won’t just give them away as soon as problems arise. We know how long it can take animals to adjust to new situations and environments as we have had a large variety of animals with completely different backgrounds, and we’re huge animal lovers. It means a lot to us that you’re all willing to help out and offer advice as to what we should do.
