Newly adopted cat won’t stop meowing!

Seeking some help and reassurance here! I recently adopted a 1-year old male neutered cat from the shelter (he was there for 4 days).

He has been at my house for exactly 1 week now. I’m at work all day, sometimes 10-12 hours a day so I try to wake up a little earlier and play with him for 30 minutes before feeding him and going to work. When I get home from work, I will play with him for 30-45 minutes before feeding around 10:30pm.

Problem is... he keeps meowing a lot at night and in the morning. His night meowing has calmed down a littttttle bit but his morning meows seem to be getting worse? I live in a studio apartment so I can’t escape it. He will eat, groom, use the bathroom, and then start meowing like crazy. I’ve been ignoring his behavior and only paying attention to him when he’s quiet, but I’m just worried I’ll be stuck with a loud cat. His meows sound like longwinded trills/chirps. He doesn’t meow at all throughout the day or when he plays, it’s only at morning or night. And it’s confusing because I’ll feel like I’ve played with him long enough to burn out his energy but his meowing seems to show otherwise.

I have a clicker and want to train him, but am confused about how long after he stops meowing to click and reward bc I don’t want him to think I’m rewarding his meowing.

Anyone have any experience with this?
