Unneutered male cat peeing in random places

My male cat is 1.5 years old, he’s not neutered (don’t hate me, he’s an inside cat who lives with a spayed female cat, I didn’t want to see him in any pain :( ) although, recently he’s started peeing outside of the litter box. I’m wondering if he is urine marking since he is a male and young, or if it’s something more serious. At first it was by our desk right next to the chair at the desk, he would pee continuously in that same spot. Now, it’s the bathtub, he has urinated there twice now which is better than on the chair but why did he switch locations? It’s really scaring me because I just don’t want him to be in any discomfort.

He’s been eating and drinking regularly but has also been jumping on the counters to try and get into the sink which he never used to do. We have two separate litter boxes for both of our cats that we clean everyday, this is a new problem.

Is my cat just trying to mate or is this an underlying issue?

Btw he has an appointment scheduled to get neutered but I’m wondering if I should get him checked out for anything else first? I thought getting neutered would fix it and that he was just urine marking but now that he’s switched locations I’m worried. Cats always show little signs and I’m wondering if he’s trying to tell me something.

Anyone have this happen to their cat and what was it?? Any help is appreciated, thank you.
