What are some amazing examples of communication you have with your pet on a daily basis?

Until recently, I hadn't given this much though, but I consider these extraordinary:

So with my doggy (her name Meli) we have a sort of communication through the leash. It is one of those very long leashes with the winding mechanism and a stopper button. If you juuuuust slightly press the button, it would only grind inside without stopping her. So most of the time, I do not have to resort to the stopper at all. If she is going towards the street and I am not feeling comfortable with that, I would just press the button lightly and she would turn around and either give me a look of protest or will accept it and go sniff another part of the daily doggy newspaper.

Getting older, she started to have hearing issues. So any commands that she has learned, she cannot hear them any more. She can, though, hear a very high pitched whistle sound we make in our family (very very few people know how to whistle like that and it's much higher pitch than a normal whistle). So I use that in a "look at me, I want your attention" kind of way. After doing that, I would then gesture something to her. It amazes me how she adapted at an advanced age, to use a system fundamentally different than what she has used her whole life to communicate with me. Every command that we have ever used, now has an equivalent sign we do.

Last example would be using different phrases for the amount of time I will be gone from home. I'm 99% sure she understands exactly what they meant, as it will reflect in her reaction. For example "bye" is for a few hours. "I'll be back" is for something like going to the shop. Also these are now gestures too.

What do you find extraordinary in your communication?
