Why trazodone did not work for my Labrador retriever?

I have a 3 years old Labrador retriever that weights 45 kilos or 99 pounds. I had it since he was 10 weeks old. He gets a yearly trip to the vet. However, in the last visit, he became shy and started to snarl. The vet prescribed 150 mg trazodone pills to have him calmed and booked another appointment for next day in the afternoon at 1pm. As prescribed by the vet, I gave my dog one pill 150 mg trazodone at 10 pm the night before the appointment and another pill of 150 mg trazodone, next day, 2 hours before the appointment. But at the time of appointment my dog was not relaxed or sedated so I had to put him between my legs and use my knees and arms to locked his body and head for the vet to examined him. Any ideas ? Thank you?
