A bit of backstory - we adopted a 1 year old cat about 2/3 months ago, we thought we were doing a good deed by taking her from a home that couldn’t look after her due to the kids in the house having asthma that she made worse but now we’re starting to suspect that they didn’t want her anymore as her litter box use is pretty poor
When we got our cat she had a really upset stomach and had a lot of accidents around the house but never went in the same place twice, so we put it down to the stress of being in a new home and kept putting her in the litter box every so often to remind her where it was.
Since then we have had a few weeks of her not going outside of the litter box but now she will seemingly at random go outside of the litter box and now has picked two spots that she likes to go in which are within about a foot of the litter box. When she goes outside the box she does seem to have a slightly upset stomach which might explain it but not always. She never pees outside of the box which is confusing to me as it shows she doesn’t seem to have a problem with the box itself
Does anyone have any advice? We want to take her to a vet to see what’s going on with her stomach but all vets are currently emergencies only. We have kept the same litter box and litter from her old home and kept the same diet to minimise the stress to her as well as dumping out the old litter and putting completely fresh in in case she was rejecting it for being too dirty but it hasn’t made a difference
