I have been thinking about getting a pet for a while. One of the reasons I haven't is that I'm worried the noise from me playing musical instruments in my house would be too distressing for an animal.
I mostly play the drums. My house is quite small. I wear ear protection when I play, and I'm not sure of how loud it is in the rest of the house with the door to the drum room shut, but I have to imagine it would be at least as loud as someone using power tools. There is no sound-proofing, it's just a normal spare room.
I practice often, and while I guess I could let a dog outside (I have a small paved yard with a few trees), I'm still not sure if an animal would be happy with it. I wouldn't want to bring a pet into my home only for them to be panicked or stressed out all the time.
Am I right to think it would be unethical to keep a cat or a dog and be making so much noise?
