Did my cat give me worms?

Help! Got my beautiful kitten in February from a cat rescue home. Paperwork said she had been dewormed. In early March I notice she is scooting her butt on my carpet. I take her to the vet they confirm it’s worms and they give me 2 pills to give her 3 weeks apart. Then 3 weeks later I’m supposed to bring in her poop again.

While I’m paying the receptionist is laughing and telling me horror stories of kids with worms swimming in their eyes- cause the worms affect people differently - “but don’t worry you won’t get them as long as you don’t eat her poop” she adds on my way out the door.

COVID happens, vet is only taking in emergencies. I figure the cat took the meds worms must be gone.

Fast forward to Thursday last week. I see my cat scooting across my bedspread! I freak out, take her poop in. YUP SHE STILL HAS WORMS!! I need to go tomorrow to get a new medicine and pay more money. So she has had worms for her entire her life with me.

But IM FREAKING OUT! I guess she’s been doing this scooting for a while? Why didn’t the medicine work? Are they just trying to make money off me? These worms must be fierce if they didn’t die with the first medicine. Why didn’t the worms die the first time?

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT I HAVE INHALED OR SWALLOWED A WORM OR WORM EGGS?? She sleeps on my bed every night! What do I do? Freaked out and getting a new vet!
