Is my cat overwhelmed?

I’ve noticed something really strange my cat does and I couldn’t find an answer anywhere so I was hoping someone here could give me one.

So I know my cat isn’t a fan of children or a large group of people. In the past when we have had family friends over she is nowhere to be seen for hours. Similarly if any of them bring their kids over she really doesn’t seem to like them. Even the kids that keep to themselves she really doesn’t want to be near them. She seems to act very strange every time kids have been around 🤷🏼‍♀️ she will run and hide and you will not hear from her for hours. Like at least with adults she seems to get over that after a while. But kids really make her act strange

So that’s the part that confuses me. So today we had a family friend over with her two kids and my cat started getting spooked out in my room the moment she heard the doorbell ring and could hear them come inside. Then at some point she must have left my room (id just assumed at the time she went outside) and I’ve been calling her for dinner for the last few hours and she was no where to be seen in the house so I assumed she was outside.

Turns out she was hiding behind the tv in the lounge and had been there the whole time! I don’t understand this because our guests had left hours ago and she’s still under there hiding not coming out or eating her food even though she could hear me calling her? Like why is she still acting all strange and continuing to hide even after the kids have left??

She wasn’t trying very hard to come out and I basically had to go in behind the tv and get her and even food wasn’t enough for her to want to come out. She didn’t seem to be scared but she wasn’t exactly wanting to come out either. Like she had her paws all tucked in so she seemed comfortable enough. I’m just a little worried because she’s not eating her food. She is definitely behaving odd and not herself and she just wants to sleep.

Is it possible that she gets so overwhelmed by the sound of kids or strangers or something that it exhausts her??

I’m so confused 😳
