missing elderly cat- any tips/stories to share
i have a 17 year old cat named coffee, he is extremely affectionate and loves people.
a fortnight ago we had a possible kidney failure scare but his bloodwork came back as a negative for kidney failure or thyroid issues.
he is usually very vocal at 7am about being fed and the same around 6pm.
last night he was in my room and i let him out, he hasn’t been seen since. he’s an outdoor cat who usually only ventures to the front garden. one of our neighbours has really high fences and a yappy dog but he can’t climb due to a surgery he got a few years ago. the other neighbours backyard can only be accessed by the front which he rarely does.
i’ve checked under the shed and in his usual spots but at this point he would have emerged. with isolation and us staying home he likes to sleep in his basket in the office and along with loving his food this is extremely alarming.
a few years back he went missing for twelve days when we first moved to my current home but he came back at 3am.
i’m sitting up with my other cat waiting for him but i’m getting concerned. is it just an old wives tale that cats go off and hide to die? is there anything i can do?
i’ve put out cat food and walked the neighbourhood every 30 minutes calling for him but he’s a no show.
he wouldn’t get lost, i know that, he’s not senile and although he’s slow and can’t jump he is capable of moving around.
this is so unlike him, his appetite is still amazing, he’s healthy and it’s winter here so he likes to stay indoors.
i seriously love this cat and so does my entire family, this is so out of character for him considering he’s been missing for 24 hours now.
anyone’s experiences or advice would be so welcome right now, i can’t sleep thinking about all of this.
i just want to find him, he means so much to everyone and i’m worried sick.
forgot to mention- he has a collar on with a bell on it, his tag was removed because the phone number on it was changed. he’s never removed it himself before so it’s not like someone took him in as a stray.
