I’ve had my sweet girl, Jinx, for 13 months now. When we adopted her from the humane society, we also adopted another cat. Unfortunately, the other cat went out one day and never returned. We looked for her for months, but she was a small cat and we have coyotes and hawks in our area. (We are now a strictly indoor cat home.) Jinx has been a loving, sweet, affectionate cat for as long as we’ve had her- that is until last Thursday when I brought home a new kitten. Not only does she seemingly hate the kitten, she wants NOTHING to do with myself, or the rest of my family. She is PISSED. I had never heard her hiss before and not only is she hissing at the kitten (I expected that), she’s hissed at us. She doesn’t seek out affection and gets upset when we pet her. I expected some growing pains between her and the kitten, but I am surprised and saddened by how upset she is with us. I thought because she was adopted with another cat, and she had just weaned a litter of kittens when we got her, she would be “okay” with the kitten. Maybe not best friends, but definitely not fur-rious (sorry, couldn’t help myself) with us. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make her feel more secure? We’ve been trying to give her extra attention, but as I mentioned, she doesn’t want anything to do with any of the humans in the house. Thanks in advance!
