She is underweight. She also has really bad lungs, which makes breathing hard for her. It takes her ~1 hour to eat 1/2 a can of catfood. I have been thinning it with water to make it easier for her to eat. She won't eat at all unless I sit and pet her. Does this get better? Will I always need to sit ad pet her while she eats to ensure she doesn't starve herself to death? Is there anything I can do to improve her condition? She only recently (past two months) began to undereat.
I feel so bad for her.
Since I moved into my mother's house, my cat hasn't had a safe space away from the other cats in the house. She has her own "room", but it is not formally closed off from any others with doors or anything.
My mother didn't have our heat fixed this winter, which contributed to my cat developing a respiratory illness. Her lungs were already bad before I adopted her, and this made it worse. Her breathing is improving again and I have been taking her to the vet for treatment, but I doubt she will ever fully regain the lung function that she had.
I don't know what I can do to help her more than what I am currently doing (vet+medication+affection).
