My mom found a kitten a week ago and I decided to take it in. It’s very young maybe 6 weeks but very curious and active. He’s been living at my moms house with her three dogs and doing great. I decided to bring him home yesterday and introduce him to my dogs. I took him out and held them and let them smell and then put the kitten in a cage to ensure he was safe while they were getting used to each other. When i took him out it would only be supervised and within our immediate reach.
My dogs are super friendly and have acted great around my parents three cats in the past. The older dog (around 7) didn’t give two shits. Sniffed and then left. The young 2 year old is worrying me. He’s very focused on the kitten. we can break his attention and have him look at us instead and he’ll leave the room. He will lay down and ignore it at times. But he did lunge at the cage and seems to have that ridged stance when watching the kitten at times.
I’m not sure how long I should try and get them acquainted before I give up. I will be heart broken if I have to take the kitten back, but want him to be safe. Any suggestions?
