So, my gf and I recently moved to NY. We're staying with her mom and family in the place they rent, while we look for a place of our own. I brought a dog with me(her mom knew about this). Said dog, I got during Thanksgiving, she is a family dog so the previous owner said she would continue paying for any vet things she needed, I mistakenly thought she meant she had pet insurance, but turns out she just meant vet bills. So, now we're here and my gf's mom didnt know we were required to give info about the dog to the office.
So, specifically, the lady asked for vet info (like updates on shots and stuff, which I understand), but she also said we need pet insurance. Can she require that? I'm currently waiting for a response on whether she actually meant pet insurance or if she meant renter's insurance for the pet, but if she meant pet insurance(as in wellness or emergency), I dont see why it's her business HOW I pay for my pet's vet bills.
I'm willing to get insurance. This is mostly to see if she's allowed to mandate it, because if she is, obviously this puts a time limit on when I need to get the insurance.
