Our 10 year old dog had knee surgery today.

A few weeks ago, my wife thought our dog was moving slow, so on a regularly scheduled vet visit, I asked the doc to look her over.

He determined that she had a partial acl tear and would require surgery to correct it. Our dog is a 10 year old Brittany/German shepherd/other mix that we got from a shelter 9 years ago. She’s in great health and active, which the doctor mentioned in his recommendation that if she wasn’t in such good shape, he wouldn’t have recommended surgery. Her knee was causing her to favor the other leg and causing back pain. His advice was that surgery would fix her knee and would delay the onset of arthritis in her back, hips, etc.

She had her surgery today and is in good spirits, but it’s tough seeing her struggle with her bum leg and cone of shame. I think we did the right thing, but my wife feels guilty.

Did we do the right thing?

TLDR: Our dog had knee surgery and we feel guilty.
