I live in a 2 bedroom house that I rent with my mother(I’m 26) We both have had many cats in our lives before but in better homes. I have a elderly kitty who has no teeth. She is 14, but has a rough house phase that she uses on other kitties that isn’t enjoyable for other cats. My mom has a middle aged lady, she has a lot of ptsd that we have slowly been working on but loves my mother better much. My girl and my mothers lady don’t exactly get along so they were getting swap out times in bedrooms and the living room. Nothing crazy.
This summer a stray boy came by and I scooped him up and took him in. He is fairly young, recently fixed now and has a lot of stress from other kitties, but he is trying. We have had him for 4 months, he isn’t very safe around other kitties right now due to his anxiety and fear of other cats. Usually at this point we would swap him with a bedroom kitty and swap them around during daytime hours. Me and my mom sleep with our respective ladies, and the boy gets the whole house.
But recently, we just had a very very malnourished and frail boy literally come to us to ask for help. We couldn’t NOT scoop him up. If he was outside much longer… the worst would of happened surely. Now I can afford to take care of this new frail boy. But… We don’t have a lot of space. We have had four cats before, this isn’t new to us. But this house doesn’t have much space. We have a long rectangular bathroom(it only had a tub due to the age of the house) with a window at the end. The new frail boy is in this room. We are trying to swap everyone out at intervals, but they barely get 6 or so hours each to get company now.
And adopting this new boy out would ruin both me and my mothers mental state, let alone we live in a area where people don't care about cats at all. So he wouldn’t be safe if it wasn’t for use taking him in. At least right now he does get love, and food, and warmth and a safe space instead of outside. He wants so so much love though.
Am I a terrible person…? I don’t have a perfect settup anymore, but I know I am giving more then he got… but am I neglecting them all…? All my cats? Am I a horrible person….?
