Am I wrong?

Last year we got a dog, she was more of a dog because of my mental health and my sons. She is a border collie and I know they are really clever so I thought it was the best thing. Yes she is very active and she is more for me than my son. We feed her, we leave the back door open for her when we're in so she has a run in the garden even runs up and down the fence for the neighbours ball when they play football, we take her for walks, she cuddles us on the evening.. Fast forward to two weeks ago I got two kittens, we are slowly introducing them to the dog she has licked them a few times but I don't trust her around them on her own or for a long period of time just incase anything happened. I was scared to tell my mom because I know what she would say but I told her 2 days ago and she wasn't happy and said I should get rid of the dog. The past two days she's spent time looking into re homing her. Well today I stood my ground and said I don't want to get rid she's my family, it would be like gettign rid of my children if another came along. I just couldn't.. but then she threatened to call the rspca because she's convinced the cats will get killed by the dog and that it's cruel. I dont want to get rid of her and I would rather just see hwo it goes and if they don't get on I will have to rehome the kittens but she wants to dog to go and to keep the kittens. I feel lost and guilty.
