let me go ahead and answer the obvious questions. she is spayed, she has nothing physically wrong causing these issues, and yes, i have extensively googled and watched videos on training and completely ignoring. nothing works. EDIT: she is not doing it for hunger or water either as she is fed before bed.
i got my cat from my best friend because he moved across the country and could not take her with him. she is an angel and i adore her, but i am at my wits end. i cannot tell you the last time i have slept an entire night without any interruptions. i do not let the cat in my bedroom due to health reasons (allergies) and also because she tears my carpet up. i am in an apartment in the city and luckily my apartment has very sound proof walls, but i am so horrified my neighbors are going to file a complaint. EDIT TO ADD; my friend did not tell me about this issue at all, so i don’t know if he didn’t experience it or just withheld the info. when i have brought it up to him he said that she def meowed a lot but this seems a lot more than what he dealt with, but he also lived in a multi-story home versus i am in a small apartment, so perhaps she was doing it farther away and he couldn’t hear it. i don’t know.
i first verified there was nothing medically causing her incessant meow/yowling. she is spayed, so i know she is not in heat and there are no other medical issues present in her. i initially tried some positive punishment (spray bottle), but this did not work because she would simply continue on after i had gotten back in bed. i have even said screw it and let her sleep in bed with me despite the carpet issue and my allergies; she still gets up out of bed and does it, and she also is impossible to sleep with as she has to be on top of me all night. i have tried sleeping on the couch in the living room— she still does it. i am now in the phase of completely ignoring her, so far it has had 0 effect on her. she also has plenty of toys, even some automated ones, to keep her busy.
i really am at a loss with this. i absolutely do not want to rehome her as she was my best friends cat previously, and was re-homed to him from another friend after living on the street. she is amazing except for this part. however, i do have to consider that i am getting ready to start medical school and this is not sustainable for me in the future. further, if she is not happy here and that is the reason and rehoming her is best then i will take it in to consideration. please any and all advice is welcome ðŸ˜
