My 7-month old cat is biting me

I adopted my cat just before he turned 5 months old. He's an amazing boy, a good mix of cuddly and playful. He's brightened my life these past few months.

However, lately he's been really nippy. I really don't think it's aggression, he never hisses or growls, he always seems happy. The biting starts in the morning when he wakes up. He nibbles my legs through my sheets (he won't bite my exposed skin, so if I push the sheets off I can get a few more minutes of sleep). Even if I get up and feed him, he's back biting because he just wants me up. He has taken this habit to the couch too, if he wants to play he will bite me.

The other time he bites usually come out of the blue. He'll wrap his paws around my wrist and chomp down on my arm. Usually this has happened when he comes over to me purring and looking for attention.

I'm not sure what to do. He's healthy, was cleared by the vet mid-September when we got his final vaccine. I've tried redirecting to toys, enriching his environment. I've been giving him a lick mat with frozen wet food for dinner. Could this be a phase? Any advice would be appreciated.
