family wants me to make cat roam freely outdoors

I am a strong advocate for indoor cats but I have a yard that I let my cat go in daily to play, etc. The problem is my cat has been wanting to go to the front yard where there's a road which can grt pretty busy. I always leave him out on a harness supervised but I don't want him to go to the front because of the cars and dangers. I let him go to the front once because he looked very sad so I thought it would be a nice change for him. I held him in my arms the whole time. After that day my cat cries so much to be let outside. He tries to escape a lot and my family are all pressuring me to let him roam freely. My dad grew up in a country where there were lots of strays so whenever I say it dangerous or bad for his health he gets so angry and says the cats back home are fine and eat garbage everyday. That cats are wild animals and shouldn't be stuck at home. My siblings aren't to that extent but they do pressure me to take him out a LOT. Tbh I'm scared one day my dad will just let him go. He says he'll come back but my cat is still so small he didn't even reach 6 months. What should I do? (btw the cat is fully mine, i pay all the bills for him, and take care of him) my dad has severe anger issues and always thinks hes right. With my siblings also agreeing I think its going to be really hard. I'm not sure what to do. I considered doing walks but I know he'll whine so much when he gets back home.

Btw I bought the tractive gps thing. I have the premium membership.
