Hi there, I recently got a cat (6 y.o, female, neutered, strictly in door) around 2 months ago, and I love her very much.
However, she is currently refusing to eat her dry food.
When I first adopted her from the shelter, I bought a bag of the food that she was used to. For 2 days after i adopted her, I hadn't noticed her eating or drinking anything, and I started to worry. I decided to buy some wetfood, that she was very reluctant to eat at the start, but eventuallys started loving as much as I love her. I would give her a small spoonful 4 times a day to wake her appetite for the dry food. This worked, until i ran out of dry food, and had to buy some more. Trouble was, I couldnt find the brand anywhere, and the shelter I bought her from is too far away without a car. So i bought 3 small packages of different kinds of dry food, with chicken flavor for her, to find something that she liked.
First package i opened, and she LOVED it. Succes.
When the bag was empty, I ordered another bag with 10kg worth of food. Enough to last her a long time. And guess what? - She REFUSES to eat it. I still give her wet food, although its only 3 spoonfuls now, so atleast she gets something.
Is it a matter of tough love, and refuse to give her anything but dry food and fresh water? Should I take her to the vet for a checkup (She was checked just before i adopted her)? Should I just give in and replace her entire diet with some high quality wet food (within my budget)? Or anything else?
Please, I want my cat to be happy, healthy and full.
Edit: Forgot to add - I've tried mixing her dry food with her wet food with somewhat mixed results. She will reluctantly eat it, but doesn't chew it properly and ends up barfing.
