New cat not getting along with my dog

Hi reditters,

So we just adopted a cat(female) who's seven years old, she is very loving and sweet, all she wants to do is cuddle and give kisses. We have had our dog(female) for seven years as well, which we raised since she was two months old. Both the cat and the dog are neutered. My dog seems to try really hard to get along with the cat but the cat just kinds of ignores her, which makes my dog cry because she wants to play with her. They both have the same personality, they're very relaxed, they are both loving. Now my dog always gets a little barky whenever she meets new people or animals, the first interaction between them did not go too well. My dog kept on barking and the cat hissed at her, but that was not the case after the second interaction, they both kind of smelled each other and they seem to co exist. My dog is also not putting too much pressure on the cat, my dog is kind of just following the cat around, while the cat is avoiding my dog. My question is, will they both ever get along, and when would it be safe to leave the house with them unseparated .
