I adopted a cat 3 days ago. I brought him home and he was very active checking everything out and asking to get petted. He seemed pretty adjusted right away, aside from the constant checking everything out. After the 5 hours of him being very active it was late at night and I was sitting working on my computer in the living room for a couple hours. He laid on the couch mostly and also jumped on my lap for about 10 mins.
Then he hid under the couch to sleep. This was around 2AM. Next morning, I checked on him and he was still there. I went out all day with my roommate and her son and returned early evening. Cat was still under the couch. He meowed and I got him out. He went back to his active self.
After a half hour, I went for an hour long walk. During that time my roommate had come and gone 2 times to the laundry room. When I returned she said she couldn't find the cat and they were looking for 30 mins. We all looked and he hasn't been found for over a day.
My roommate and son say they are nearly certain he didn't get out. She looked as she opened and closed the door.
But the cat is not supposed to go in her room. She left her room door open when she left. Her room is full of clutter and things piled high in the corner of the room. And the closet is pretty full, with bins of clothes, boxes and mic items.
I don't know the cat well as I just got him 3 days ago. He had already hid under the couch for 15 hours from the first night to the second day. He didn't come out when we were in the living room when we got home early evening. I had to pick him up, although he wasn't fighting at all, just not interested in coming out on his own.
We looked through my roommates room for an hour, but there is so much stuff. I think the rest of the apartment was very well searched.
I am very worried. There is a very small chance he got out. But my roommate made a point to look and we are on the second floor, so it might be more obvious when a cat gets out, as he would be a little boxed in by the second floor railing and would have to go down the stairs. He is fast though.
I can't do anything until tomorrow. We are going to empty a lot of the clutter from my roommates room.
Do you think it's more likely that he is hiding for 30 hours now? No meowing? No coming out to eat?
