Advice or resources about training dogs to listen only to the commands given to them?

Hi

We have two dogs. A 3yo and a 6m one. They are doing great with each other and the pup is getting quite good with basic training.

I have never had two dogs at the same time so I am very unsure about giving them commands separately. Like how to make my older dog (lets call her A) listen only if I say "A sit" and not if I say "B sit"? I asked our dog trainer but she just told me that "dogs understand that" which is not obviously the case here.

The younger seems to get it well that she must do things only if I am calling her first. But the older is used of course to being the only dog and doesnt understand what I mean.
