Hello! I am currently away from my beloved cat Mia because I'm in my last semester of college and I had no other choice than to go back in person. I came home for a visit about 2-3 weeks ago and I noticed that she had lost a noticeable amount of weight. She's a petite cat but she's usually pretty chunky, and when saw her during that visit, I couldn't believe how thin she'd gotten. My mom had told me that Mia wasn't really eating too much lately, and after I was done with my visit, she had to go to the vet because she stopped eating all together. The vet checked her out and then ordered some blood tests, and she had to go back to the vet a second time because she was puking. Our vet said she could only have ice cubes that day and to give her hamburger and rice the next day. She wasn't too interested in that, but a few days after she seemed to eat a little more. Anyways, the blood tests did not show anything abnornal and everything is in healthy range according to the vet. She went again today because my mom is just very concerned on how she's not eating much at all since she's back to pretty much not eating. Our vet prescribed her this ear ointment that's supposed to kick up her appetite, but it had to be ordered through Chewy so I'm not sure how quickly it will arrive.
I am wondering if she possibly isn't eating because I'm away and she's feeling depressed. Because she's good in terms of her physical health, but she's 8 pounds and I don't want to see her to keep on losing weight. I don't want her to suffer. What on earth could be happening and what can I do? I come back home in December since that's when I graduate. I was away for one semester two years ago but this did not happen. I think she got closer to me during the pandemic to the point she was sleeping with me every night and I was home almost 24/7 so I don't know if that's why? But what else could it be? Is there a certain kind of food I should try to give her? I just feel lost and hopeless since I can't be there all the time. I'm coming back on Friday so hopefully she'll feel better but I just feel so bad.
She's been to the vet three times and I'm hoping this medicine will help but I'm very concerned that she's just going to keep on dropping weight.
P.S: she's about 5 years old but I'm not 100% sure because I adopted her in the summer of 2017 and they told me she was a year old then.
