Adopting one kitten or two?

Hey everyone! I'm about to adopt my first pet (a kitten) and am torn on whether to adopt one of her littermates as well. I met the kitten today — she won't be ready to go home until next week though — and the kitten's foster brought up the idea of adopting 2 kittens. In particular I really liked my (future) kitten's sister; they seemed to have really complementary personalities and loved to play together. They are all 2 months old.

I had planned to adopt only one kitten but I would love to be able to give my kitty a feline companion, and of course having double the cuteness is tempting too. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea.

Some background on me: I'm 21, rising senior in college, live in a small 3 bedroom apartment with 2 roommates. One of my roommates is going to try to bring her cat from home in a few months too. My landlord has given me permission to have a cat—one cat. Doubling the food/litter/vet costs would be doable for me because I have a part time job, but it would definitely be stretching my budget.

What are your thoughts on one kitten vs two? Thanks!

TL;DR: 21 year old college student trying to decide whether to adopt 1 kitten or 2.
