I work at a University and last week a small kitten was found. After finding that a lot of my colleagues were unwilling to care for the kitten, my girlfriend and I made the decision to care for it until we could find a foster or forever home. The kitten is estimated to be 3 weeks old today. My girlfriend and I are very new to this and have been watching Kitten Lady videos and getting advice from vets. Tonight we had a couple things happen that worried us a bit and wanted to get advice from this community before we rushed him to an emergency vet.
First one is that he ended up pooping a little bit in his bedding. He’s had some diarrhea since we got him, which we got to go from dripping to a little more consistent, but not completely hardened. Tonight in his poop there was some blood. We were thinking it may be Coccidiosis, but he also has a little rash by his tail that could have been irritated more. Should we rush him to an emergency vet tonight for this or keep an eye on it over his next few bowel movements?
Second thing that concerned me a bit is that every so often he makes this strange noise after he finishes taking his bottle. It’s almost like a sneeze but with his tongue out and a pa-pa-pa sound. I’m worried about him getting milk in his lungs, but I’m not sure the symptoms of that.
He remains very active, meowing and walking around and gaining weight despite the above problems.
Thanks to anyone that can give this nervous new kitten caregiver some help. We just really want to keep this little guy healthy.
