Cat sitting for an aggressive cat

Okay, so a friend of mine asked me to take care of her cat. Feed it and play with it so that it doesn't get lonely. Now the cat is usually pretty well behaved when the owner is around. But now that she's left, it's a completely different animal. I tried to give it some treats (owner said to just give it a few), and the cat bit me when I wouldn't give her the whole bag. Funny thing is, the day before the owner had me feed the cat treats when she was around, and the cat was perfectly well behaved. Apparently the little fucker thinks it can bully me when she's not around, despite the fact that I am undoubtedly the largest, strongest, and most violent living organism it will ever see in its life as an indoors cat. The breaking point was when the cat got scared of the sound my protein shaker made. It ran into a wall like an idiot, and then hid under the coach. When it emerged, it started getting all aggressive with me. It clawed at my ankle, and started whining and hissing at me. Basically if you've ever seen videos of cats fighting on youtube, it was like that.

I wasn't about to let something that weighs 10 pounds threaten me with violence. This cat has been kept indoors all it's life and no fighting experience whatsoever. I on the other hand have been training MMA for close to 12 years. If push came to shove, that cat was fucked. I knew that, and I wanted the cat to know that. I basically challenged it into a fight by copying the whining sounds it made and adding in a few growls. After 30 seconds of growling the cat got the message. It retreated behind the couch and started hissing and whining, clearly afraid of me. I took that as a win. Admittedly, it was pretty dumb getting into an ego contest with a 10lbs animal, and I went on the internet and apparently this is a really "bad" thing to do. Everywhere I look, it looks like people are telling me that punishing cats is bad. But I'm still half convinced that just a bunch of excuses animal lovers say to discourage people from hitting animals. I even laid down on the floor and turned my gaze to avoid eye contact in an attempt to be submissive. I let the cat approach me. It sniffed at my hand and when I didn't respond, the fucker tried to maul my hand. Now I want to like this cat. I really do. Like I said, when the owner is around, the cat is perfectly well behaved. I've read somewhere that cats have short memories and won't hold grudges, so I'll leave it alone for like a day and a half. After that, if that thing attacks me....

I guess this is the part where I ask for advice, but honestly? This short rant has helped me realized that I'm not really interested. Like I'm reading up on cats on the internet, and what advice can anyone give me besides leave it alone because the damn thing hasn't really been domesticated? I'm doing this as a favour so I am not getting paid for this. I won't let the stupid cat starve, and I'll try my best not to break its spine in frustration. This experience has me convinced that cat-people are on the wrong side. Get a dog. They can be trained.
