Hello, looking for some advice for my 16 year old cat. She has been spayed since before one year and has always been litter trained. Been living with me and six year old cat (also female, spayed) for over two years with minimal issues. Had the same litter boxes the whole time.
I took her to the vet less than a month ago and the vet said she was in remarkable health for her age. I even used PrettyLitter for half a year to ensure she wasn’t having health issues. Nothing has changed in our furniture layout, I clean both litter boxes daily, and they eat four regularly scheduled meals a day + have access to a drinking fountain at all times. She is still spry and gets exercise chasing wand toys.
I am really at a loss with this situation. They are both well behaved (for cats) in every other aspect - they even sit on command before eating. But I am constantly watching my oldest cat to see where she is while at home, because she will either slink off to the living room corner to pee on the plush carpet or in our bedroom closet. I’ve tried moving the boxes to the areas she pees, but she’ll just pee directly in front or beside them instead.
We had a small carpet machine with enzymatic cleaner but swapped it for a standing one because my back began to ache when using it. I clean the areas of the carpets I catch her peeing in (or unfortunately walk into areas she has peed in) at least four times a week. Sometimes twice a day. I feel like a prisoner in my own home with how much I have to clean or watch after her to ensure she doesn’t pee somewhere other than her litter box.
Please let me know if you have any advice or have gone through a similar experience, I don’t want to lose my best friend, I’ve had her with me since I was six years old.
