(Going to be cross posting in other subreddits)
I need outside opinions on this, running out of time to decide.
So, tomorrow my family and I are (most likely) going on a 7+ hour road trip, where we will pick up my mom from the airport, spend the weekend at my aunts house celebrating my mom and bro’s bday, and then drive home on Monday.
Earlier this week, we had to take one of our cats (Male, 2 yrs old) in for extreme constipation and a UTI (he’s much better now and has lots of medicines, as it turns out his condition with the constipation is chronic). The medicine is 1mL liquid every 12 hrs, a pill every 8 hrs, and a powder mixed with food every 12 hrs. It’s a lot.
So we need help on deciding what to do. Do we:
A) Get my willing friend (who has basically no experience with cats, but is a smart and capable person) to give him the medicine 3 times a day for the weekend we’re gone. Pros: we get to go on the trip, our cat is comfortable at home, he’s around our other cats, and can roam around. Cons: He’s really really scared of strangers, he’s good at hiding so my friend might have a lot of trouble, we can’t monitor his eating/drinking/peeing/pooping (3 other cats who share litter boxes) and we can’t get him to the vet if there’s an emergency (friend can’t drive).
B) Bring him with us on the road trip and have the family we are staying with set up a relatively large room for him at Aunt’s house. Pros: able to take him to a vet in case of emergency, we’d be able to monitor his E/D/P/P better, we’d be able to do the medicine (we have a lot of experience). Cons: Our cat would probably be super stressed out by the ride, he’d be in an unfamiliar home, and stuck in one room.
C) We cancel the trip and stay home. Pros: Our cat won’t be stressed out, we get to give him his meds, he won’t be scared by a stranger. Cons: My mom will be stranded and have to cancel her flight and get a new last minute one, we would be able to monitor Eating we won’t be able to monitor his D/P/P (unless we keep him in a solitary room), and we don’t get to go on our trip.
So, what do you recommend we do?
