The title makes me sound like an asshole. But seriously, I got a new cat about 3 weeks to a month ago, and he was obviously incredibly distant at first, hissy, didn't wanna be touched, etc. I just ignored him and let him do his own thing.
So eventually he started letting me pet him, but no petting ever seemed to be enough. He'd just meow for more. That's fine, he'd go his own way when I was done.
But all of a sudden, he started hopping up on me when I sleep. Not just simply loafing on me, mind you, but constantly sitting on my face. I'll tolerate it for a bit, sometimes even a few hours, but he is a slippery little lovebug; I scoot him off, he slithers back up.
None of this seems like ABNORMAL cat behavior to me, and I want to clarify I love this cat a lot, but I just can't deal with being woken up EVERY NIGHT for hours at a time when he decides to lay down on my face, completely unmoveable.
I know it's probably the wrong decision, but I've taken to getting the rest of my few hours of sleep in on a couch in another room like a distancing divorcee.
Also, to add: he DOES have his own bed and is not interested in playing with toys so I can tire him out before bed. Maybe I just haven't found the right toy? He's more interested in my hand and getting pet than laser pointers or fishing pole toys/feathers. Treats barely motivate him either, if I try to reward him for good behavior, he knocks them out of my hand while demanding I pet him.
TL;DR: My new cat is suddenly extremely cuddly and plops his absolute wagon on my face in the middle of the night very often, sometimes stuffing his paw in my mouth, grooming and chewing my hair, licking my face with that sandpaper tongue, etc., effectively disrupting my sleep.
Is this just a temporary thing as he gets adjusted to me? Is there anything I can do to get him to not do that CONSTANTLY while I try to sleep?
Any help is appreciated, I've been up for an hour now after getting suffocated by cat ass.
