4 years ago my friend gifted me a cat without telling anyone I know or myself before buying him from Petsmart. I was living in an apartment that didn’t allow animals and tried to explain that was a horrible choice and I couldn’t keep him. I wanted to get rid of him because I knew it wasn’t the smart thing to do, but I decided against it.
I’ve grown very close to him and he is so sweet, but he has been having major issues and I don’t know what to do. I am still living in a rental, and it’s making my decision even more difficult. For the last 4 months he has been having issues with diarrhea, bloody stool, and occasional vomiting. I have spent thousands of dollars at the vet doing every test we can to figure out what is wrong, but to no avail. We have tried two different diets (expensive prescription food), antibiotics, blood tests, and other medicine. Blood test have progressively gotten worse, he has an extremely high white blood cell count but I have been told it is not leukemia. The last step I have been given is a biopsy, which obviously wouldn’t be the last thing. I can not afford to do that after spending the amount of money I have in the last few months.
He is still having bloody stool and accidents, or dripping blood onto the carpet. This morning I woke up to vomit on the carpet. I don’t think I can continue to deal with this in my financial situation and with being in a rental, but I don’t know what to do. I could really use some advice.
