We brought home a 3-4 month old kitten Tuesday, he is very skittish and likes to hide under things when it’s only humans around. Once he sees our 1.5 year old cat he suddenly gets brave and starts playing with toys, and I think he wants to play with her (the older cat). On Thursday night he started running and she immediately went after him and chased him into a corner. Last night (Friday) she did it again, only this time one of them was hissing.
I know it will take them a while to get used to each other, but I would really like to prevent him being so terrified every time he tries to play. During the day while we’re at work he is in his own room with the door shut. When we get home we open the door- he hasn’t tried to leave the bedroom yet to explore but the older kitty will come in to ‘his’ room.
