Moving Across Country with Cats--Looking for advice!

Hi guys,

So my husband and I have made the decision to move back to the Midwest to be closer to our family now that we have a daughter. We are currently in Oregon. We have two cats and a dog that we will be moving. My question is regarding our kitties.

We have been going back and forth which would be less traumatic for our cats--having them ride in the car (would be two or three super long days of driving) where they would have access to a litter box, food, etc. or have them fly as a carry-on under our seats. Logistically we could make either happen--we just can't decide which would be "easier" on them. We drove them out here originally and it was pretty traumatic. But being on a plane might even be more stressful for them (but it would be done much quicker!) My husband is a veterinarian so we would be able to medicate them safely. Let me know your thoughts/experiences!
