My cat is acting borderline bi-polar

Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong sub for this. I recently took in my sister's cat (~7M), who's really well-behaved and well socialized. He's been around 2 other cats for about 3 years now and got along with them.

My original cat (2F) is _not_ happy about this change. She's been very upset and has been howling and hissing constantly and refuses to get along. It's only been 5 days now, and she hasn't really been around other cats before, so I'm not surprised, and my wife and I are trying different things to get them to tolerate each other.

My problem is, my cat has had a total personality shift since my sister's cat got here. She's been almost bi-polar, if that's possible for a cat. She'll rub up against my legs to be pet, start purring, then starts hissing after about 10 seconds of petting. As I'm typing this, she's jumped up in my lap then started hissing at me. She'll also be playing with a toy and then latch onto it suddenly and howl and groan. She's never so much as hissed before my sister's cat arrived, and now she's going constantly. I'm really worried about her. Is this expected for an under-socialized cat? Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior or at least calm her down? I'm concerned that she now thinks that hissing is just an automatic win for her because we always give her space when she does it, so now she'll do it all the time.

Any advice is appreciated. (btw both cats have been spayed/neutered)
