We have a big 1yo doggo named Poppy. She's a strong little boxer/pit mix, and she is always really gentle and sweet with the cats, even when she's trying to play with them.
But today, like, 20 minutes ago, I took her out to go potty and she lunged and pounced on a baby bird that was randomly sitting in the grass. She started tearing it up, and wouldn't respond to verbal commands, so I had to zap her with her shock collar to get her to let go of the poor bird.
Bird hopped away, looking injured, but when my wife and I went out to go check on it, it was gone, so I assume it was okay?
Should I be concerned with the dog's behavior? This seemed violent, and I absolutely do not want a repeat of this, say, with my cats.
