My two month old kitten recently has been getting very messy in the litter box. The first few days when we confined him in the bathroom, he used his litter box properly. We’ve been letting him play in the living room more lately (he still sleeps in the bathroom) and he uses the adult cat’s litter box because hers is closer. However, we gave his anti-clumping litter and she uses clumping, so I think that affected his litter box habits a bit. Now he gets poop smeared on the sides of the box (both in his and my adult cat’s) and it gets on his feet and side of his body. This morning we had to give him a bath, but is there anything we can do to help him learn not to step in his poop and kick it around? Because he’s so young he doesn’t really know how to clean himself either. I also don’t know how to teach him to use his own litter box when he’s playing outside the bathroom.
