This is my first post here ! So i purchased a kitten a little under a year ago. She was 7 weeks when I got her, a couple months after getting her, when she was taken into the vet for her having alot of dhiarriea, she was diagnosed with FIV and she had some worm parasites aswell. I have looked quite a bit into this condition and is my understanding kittens under 6 months diagnosed most of the time don't live past 2 years and develop some sort of cancer or anemia. Since then she has been nothing short of a loving energetic ball of fur, she is so full of life and doesn't show any sings of the virus. She seems to be strong, healthy, energetic eats lots and drinks lots so I haven't put to much worry into her having FIV BUT today she is 1 years old and I can't help sitting here thinking when she is going to start going down hill and when I should expect my time to come to am end with her. When I originally got the snap test I inquired about it mabey being a false positive because she is not 6 months yet, the vet said it can happen but they found alot of the virus in her system or something like that meaning it has been there since birth most likely. I got her re-tested at around 8 months and she was still positive for fiv. Is there anything I should look out for? Is there anything I can do to prolong her life? Also am I naive for having hope she will get past the 2 3 year point ? Does anyone know if it's Evan possible for a kitten diagnosed with FIV so young to live past 5 years of age? This all has made me vary sad today, I am so attached to this cat i could not imagine loosening here in Evan 10 years let alone Mabey only having a year left with her. This disease truly breaks my heart. :(
