Tracheal collapse may be causing my pug to collapse

Hi all,

My family’s pug (almost 14) has been having several heath related issues recently and I wanted to see if anyone here has gone through something similar.

I’m almost certain that my dog has a collapsed trachea with the notable honking sound that has been occurring more and more frequently. However what’s most concerning for me is that he has been falling over and collapsing a lot. Initially I thought it could be that he was getting up or movement too quickly for his age (a vasovagal syncope). But from doing some googling, it seems like a collapsed trachea if severe could cause collapsing as well.

I know he’s getting old but I was wondering if there is something I could do to provide some relief to his symptoms. My brother took him to the vet and was given some gabapentin but that’s about it. Surgery from my understanding is incredibly extensive so if we could somehow try other things first that would be much preferred as an operation at 14 would be quite rough.

Thank you!
