2 of my dogs (the poodles, of course) keep sneaking into the garden and stealing the hot peppers that mother-in-law planted. There are Serranos, jalapeños, and some other little round red hot peppers. Only the Serranos are consistently spicy, and they're real hot. They're also the ones the dogs go after relentlessly. At first they were just secretly chewing them up when unsupervised, which... Wtf. But now they've started eating them and getting diarrhea full of Serrano pepper pieces and seeds afterwards. So we have to move all the peppers to the front yard where they can't get to them.
I'm still asking why they're so interested in the peppers though. I assume they'd be just as irritated by capsaicin as we are and when I've caught them chewing the peppers they're sneezing and snuffing away. Clearly spice isn't a deterrent though.
