I recently adopted a boy kitten who is the sweetest thing. I have a 16 year old chihuahua who has been with me his whole life. He’s never been playful with other animals but didn’t mind them either. The kitten was said to be good with dogs so long as they don’t bother him, which had turned out to be true. He’s adjusted very well and has made himself at home. My dog however is not handling it as well. He doesn’t chase the kitten or try to bother him, but he shakes when he sees him and if my kitten gets too close or jumps on the couch beside him he may snap at him. This has only happened three times so far. Another thing he has taken up, three times thus far, is peeing in front of me. He is potty trained and the vet confirmed he has no bladder issues. I know this is him being territorial and all I’m doing is telling him “no” while he is peeing. Otherwise I just clean it up and love on him after. How long do you think it will take, or did it take, for your dog to adjust to your cat? I do not plan on changing the living situation for either one of them, whether he adjusts or not. Thanks so much!
