We plan to adopt a teen Giant Schnauzer. We have two kids under 5. Well behaved and would not be agressive with an animal.
We have two cats. They are regular cats who are generally chill but do have claws. They eat a raw meat diet so we need a way to separate their food from a dog's but not have me trapsing all over the house to feed pets. A dog would take adjusting for the cats but I don't see it being an issue for more than a week. The cats have a space they can easily escape too if overwhelmed or afraid.
Largish backyard, have a place specifically for a dog run/poop.
We take two 45 min walks a day to drop off the school age kid. In the summers we hike about 4 times a month for a day.
I work from home most days. But occasionally the dog could be left alone for 8-10hrs. What accommodations need to be made here. Dog door?
I haven't had a large dog in over 15 years nor has my husband. Any tips/tricks/products that we should look into or stock up on would be appreciated.
