Annoyed

Today I found a puppy wandering the street in the cold in 10 degree F weather. Picked it up, turns out it was only a month old. I had a couple of people interested in taking her, including a coworker with a dog, a farm, and some young girls. He seemed excited to meet her, so my friend and I went so he could meet the dog. As he took it into his arms, he said "I'll post online and see if I can find the owner."

Now, I should mention that this puppy wasn't in the BEST of conditions. Only a flea collar, no ID, some old bite marks on the nose, etc. I had a feeling that the owner, who somehow loses a 1 month old puppy in the snow, probably isn't the best owner. I'm not allowed to own dogs in my apartment, but my friend who went along would've taken her. The coworker (who is much older than either of us) stated that if no one turned up, he'd turn her over to my friend. Well, the owner turned up.

Early twenties, found with drug paraphernalia multiple times (and more according to his records online!), wannabe rapper kid who admittedly looked pretty trashy. Coworker who turned her over texted me to say, "I agree that it's not the best, but that's not how these things work." I disagreed, but left it at that so as not to cause anything stupid.

I disagree with him to be honest. This isn't my first time I've watched something like this happen, and now I feel like crap for ultimately handing that pup back over. I know it's not 100% my fault, but I hate how many people get animals just to mistreat them.

So annoyed.
