My 14 year old lab has an open gash, any reasons why this may be happening?

This open sore about a month and a half ago. At first is was a small open gash. I thought it was like the one that was on his head (looks like a huge red pimple bubble boil kind of thing on his head not cancerous). Now its developed to an open flesh wound. It has a smell which has been getting worse and worse over the past few days and the wound is growing larger. Not sure what it is. He doesnt seem like hes in pain but hes not the type to show that he is unless it was extremely critical pain. Hes eating and drinking water just fine, never misses a meal. He doesnt seem to be losing weight either. What I have noticed is that hes been slowing down walking and doing physical things but of course hes turning 14 in May so im sure that may just be his age. He also has been acting up in the way that he wants to go in and out 10000 times a day. He has those fatty tumors all over and they were tested but are none cancerous. Please, anyone let me know what this is. Thank you so much!
