My kitten is a little over 5 months old. I scheduled an appointment to get her spayed two weeks ago, but the soonest date I could get is in February. The vets warned me to do it ASAP, because they usually start around 6 months old. I thought we were in the clear, buuuuut now my kitten is acting weird.
I've had many, many cats in my life--all female except for 2 boys. We usually get the girls spayed before they start going into heat, or they've been spayed before we adopt them, so I've never seen a cat in heat before. Yesterday my kitten started being...extra clingy/lovey. She's usually (literally) bouncing off the walls, chasing everything, and trying to attack us, but yesterday she started just snuggling and rolling all over me. She'll push her face into my face and start kneading my neck. She'll get down in front of my rabbit's cage and roll around on the floor, and rub against the cage + my rabbit. She turned her butt to the cage and lifted her tail, shook her tail, but didn't spray. She's not being very vocal, but is purring constantly.
Her last vet visit was three weeks ago, and she's completely healthy. Got all of her shots, got two rounds of dewormer, and they put her on a precautionary round of probiotics because she was having occasional diarrhea. So it is likely that she's just starting to go into heat? If so, how long does it last, and when can I tell that it's over? Her appointment to be spayed is almost three weeks out, and I want to make sure she's done by then because I've heard that if you spay a cat that's in heat, they can hemorrhage.
