Best low-maintenance pets?

Looking for insights from Reddit-land!

I've grown up with dogs, fish, and rodents as pets. Fifteen years ago I procured a leopard gecko (who only passed this past year, RIP) which started to get me hooked on reptiles, and soon thereafter I stumbled into the world of SNAKES.

I couldn't believe it, they're literally the perfect pet. They require no affection or attention and are happy to be left alone--they either tolerate handling or they don't, some never will (and that's OK). They eat once every week or two weeks. They poop even less often. Plus they're stinkin' cool. I didn't know that it was possible to have an animal that required so little, having spent the better part of my life deep cleaning hamster cages weekly, walking dogs every few hours, scrubbing nasty fish tanks & doing water changes, etc. Now as an adult I pour all my free time into my dog, so having snakes on the side is an ideal arrangement.

I'm curious if there are more pets out there that are similarly low maintenance. I don't mean financial investment in the animal, equipment, enclosure, food, or medical care, because I consider all those to be required, pets aren't cheap.

What I mean by low maintenance is things like--

- Does not require regular interaction

- Infrequent feeding, maybe once or twice per week

- Food does not need to be kept alive, and ideally is not highly perishable (we're talking about the best diet for that animal, not 'well you could always feed a pellet diet' if it means lower health/QOL)

- Not super messy, enclosures can be spot-cleaned

If I have to dump and clean their enclosure weekly or maintain a cricket farm, they're off the list! Bugs and other creepy-crawlies *as pets* are fair game! Tell me why your pet is easy and great!
