Is this considered rule #4 or am I allowed to ask this question?..

He isn’t dead, and it’s not a notice, but a question. I just need help. (Also not sure if it’s male or female) Main point at the bottom. (Forgot what the thing was)

I rescued a toad (American toad) a month or two ago as it’s winter and he was found inside of a store. He was about to be swept away and thrown in the garbage. I know I shouldn’t have taken him in but he was really small and it’s winter, right around the time we were expected to have a blizzard. I already had a tank at home so I just bought some coconut fiber, crickets and mealworms. I’ve been giving him bottled 100% spring water the entire time I’ve had him. He was doing really well and started getting super fat, eating like 2-3 crickets a day/every other day. (Could have been a longer time span but no longer than 4 days) and he just ended shedding for the first time like 2 weeks ago. But it took him like 2 weeks to shed. I don’t check on him much because he always burrows and only comes out to eat or soak. I just checked on him a couple minutes ago and he was lying on his back. He looks really skinny and he was trying to burrow but it looked like his back legs were too weak to do it. I don’t know much about them and was only trying to save him until winter passed and let him go. I don’t know what he’s doing or if this is normal behavior and I’d rather get an answer from more than one real person than scrolling through google forever. Will he be safe if I bury him a foot or 2 under the ground outside in 30 degree weather after he’s been inside this whole time? I was so heartbroken when I saw him upside down and I’ll be even more heartbroken if he dies under my care or even outside. He was moving and trying to burrow after I flipped him upright but he was doing it really slowly. I don’t know when the last time he ate was and he doesn’t seem to want to when I put a cricket by him. Sorry this is so long, I’m trying to give as much detail as possible to figure out why he’s doing this and if he’ll be safe if I put him outside after being in since he was small.

Rescued a small toad to save it for winter. It got really skinny and weak looking after shedding for the first time. Found him on his back and flipped him back over, tried to burrow. Why did he do this? Will he be safe if I bury him outside in 30 degree weather after he’s been inside this whole time?
