We recently adopted two shelter kittens. The shelter was not a physical one and they rely on fosters. Due to the particular foster we were working with, we ended up getting the kittens before they were spayed and neutered. Appointment is set through the shelter because they were supposed to pay for it.
They only use two different facilities here in town apparently and can’t get us in any sooner than three weeks.
Unfortunately, the girl cat went into heat at 3.5 months of age. They are normally the best of friends, and love playing, snuggling up together and wrestling each other. It’s been about three or four days I would say and the first couple days we didn’t realize what was happening. We were just wondering why she seemed to be making noise a lot at night...then it got more intense.
At first I don’t believe the male knew what was going on either but I believe now with the girl rubbing everything in sight, he is maturing faster than he was supposed to as well. He keeps sniffing/licking her area and has started biting her neck during play. We noticed he bites and then tries to jump on her. We are watching them closely so don’t let this happen.
Last night we separated them and one of slept on the couch with the girl and other in bedroom with the boy. It was hell trying to get the girl to sleep, but boy was fine. My husband had to go into work at 2am so I am with both. They cry if I leave one in a room so I am taking turns swapping them out the crate while the other gets to roam.
We are going to lock them in separate rooms while we go to work. Feel super cruel doing this since they are such good buddies and their playtime together will be severely limited until we can get in.
Asking the shelter today if we can look around for our own option and pay for it ourselves because it is torture right now haha.
Just venting and seeing if anyone has had a similar experience.
