I am 8 months pregnant and my husband and I have an 8-ish year old, female, neutered cat. Her and I have always had a good relationship. She slept with me in bed, snuggled on the couch and played often.
Over the last week or two though she has gotten extremely aggressive towards me. She is always attacking my legs when I walk passed. She follows me around meowing and rubbing up against me but as soon I go to touch her she attacks me. She also has been seeking me out at random times and biting me really hard. A few times I've woken up because she has bitten me in my sleep. Sometimes she will lay next to me and be totally fine and then out of nowhere will bite me. She hisses at me constantly. When she bites, it is not her usual playful nip. These are real bites, intended to do harm (I think) and she has drawn blood on two occasions.
She still sleeps with us in the bed but has chosen to sleep a bit further away from me, I still pay as much attention to her as I used to (except now that she bites me I scold her and refuse affection).
Most of the time she seems her normal self. She isn't sick, or hurt or acting weird in any other way except that she hates me now. Her behaviour towards my husband has not changed.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? What did you do? Is it hormones or because I'm pregnant?
I will preemptively note that we have no intentions of getting rid of our cat, at all. Unless it is absolutely necessary to keep the baby safe (when they get here) this is an option we will not be entertaining much.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
