Hello. I have a young cockatiel ( about 1.5-3 years old) called Teo that has been mistreated by his first owner.
He had problems with his cloaca that made it come out, like a prolapse, and he needed help, but the owner didn't have time nor care, but he did give him to us.
It was pretty serious and could've killed him, but we did manage to cure it and he is fine now, but we had to also mistreat him a bit since part of the treatment was holding ice on his cloaca, so we had to grab him against his will and do so, otherwise we'd lose him.
It has been some time since that happned, about a year, and as of now he is fine with our presence, but not our interactions, and he is always very quiet and standing still, even with the open cage he usually just climbs it and stays on top or inside, not anywhere else.
He also has a friend, a female named Aura, he feels more confortable with her even if they peck each other a bit, she is very docile and always wants my attention to wich I have no problem giving, but I do want to give some of that attention to Teo, and I do not feel like forcing him to be with me on my shoulder or my nap like how Aura likes is a good option.
Any tips on how to domesticate him?
Sorry about any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language.
TL;DR: how to tame a scared cockatiel?
